Farrukhabad AdministrationFarrukhabad being the Tehsil headquarters operate under the Kanpur division of the State administration headed by a divisional commissioner. A division is an administrative geographical unit of the state. Until 2000 Farrukhabad was under Allahabad division of state administration. The division headquarters operate in Kanpur. Apart from Farrukhabad five other districts which come under Kanpur division are Auraiya, Etawah, Kannauj, Kanpur Dehat and Kanpur Nagar.

Farrukhabad Administrative Setup

The district Farrukhabad is divided into three tehsils namely Farrukhabad, Kaimganj and Amritpur for administrative purpose. The three tehsils in sub-divided into seven blocks, out of which three blocks operate under Farrukhabad Tehsil namely Barhpur, Kamalganj and Mohammadabad.

Tehsils are nothing but the sub-divisions of a district which in turns divides into blocks.

The Nagar Palika Parishad forms the local self-government in Farrukhabad which is operated by the voted ward members. These ward members vote for a chairperson for the Nagar Palika who leads the administrative control and tax collection in Farrukhabad. The CMO or the chief medical officer is in-charge of health and sanitation in Farrukhabad. The Farrukhabad Tehsil operates under the SDM or the sub-divisional magistrate who is in charge of administration in a Tehsil and the SDM in turn assist the DM in his office under special marriage act of 1954.

The SDM has power to register a marriage at his office and to enquire any uncertain death happened within Farrukhabad Tehsil. The three blocks under Farrukhabad Tehsil is headed by a Block Development Officer. The BDO is appointed directly by the state government of Uttar Pradesh. Accountabilities of Farrukhabad District Magistrate

The district magistrate is the overall administrative officer and the revenue officer in Farrukhabad. The main responsibilities of a DM are to maintain law and order, collection of taxes, providing agricultural loans to the public, disaster management, crisis management, land assessment and acquisition. The DM of Farrukhabad is assisted by the CDO – Chief Development officer, CRO –Chief Revenue officer, Additional district magistrate, City Magistrate and Sub-divisional magistrate. The DM also heads the Farrukhabad industries centre, Farrukhabad District Coordination Committee and the Farrukhabad District Rural Development Agency.
